Construction of "Yakima Illuminations: Bins of Light" art project above the Lincoln Avenue underpass begins Tuesday. The artist, Laura Haddad of Seattle says she's excited to make the art a reality in Yakima. Haddad is the owner of the Seattle firm Haddad Drugan LLC. She says each of the bins above the Lincoln underpass will be lit during the day with sunshine and at night they'll be lit by led lights.  "There are six panels with screen printed imagery of fruit sitting in packing trays." Total cost is $450,000. The city council approved an agreement with the Millennium Foundation that will pay to maintain the artwork.
While the installation process is underway, two of the three lanes of Lincoln Avenue between 1st Street and 1st Avenue will be closed Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. During the project, the northernmost lane along that section of Lincoln will remain open during work hours. All three lanes of Lincoln Avenue between 1st Street and 1st Avenue will be open during evening hours and on weekends. The project is expected to be complete later this summer.
