Yakima city crews are working this spring and summer to clean up four former Tiger Marts owned by the city.

City Manager Tony O'Rourke says crews are starting at the 56th and Summitview site.

Within the year that site will be in the hands of the private sector and hopefully we’ll start seeing some physical transformation.

Monitoring devices have been placed at the site as workers continue to clean up that and three other areas. The properties are at 56th and Summitview Avenue, 24th and Nob Hill Boulevard, 1808 N. First St. and 16th Street and East Nob Hill Boulevard.

The city purchased the properties in 2013 from a private seller. O'Rourke is hoping they will be sold to developers that will enhance the areas and create new jobs.
