One of the more useless things I run across on social media is the posting pictures of food.  Admittedly I am not a “foodie” but I just don’t get the basic idea but there is no question that some people love posting photos of food and a new study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research Public Health and Surveillance finds coffee is the most-tweeted consumable in the U.S.

Nearly five percent of the tweets randomly collected from 2015-2016 by researchers mentioned food. The most-tweeted about edibles were: coffee, beer, pizza, wine, chicken, BBQ, ice cream and tacos.

When researchers sorted by healthfulness, 16 percent were healthy foods, and 9 percent mentioned fast food.

The most-popular fast-food restaurant to tweet about was Chipotle, Taco Bell, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Tweets from poorer neighborhoods were less likely to mention healthy foods, and areas with more healthy-food tweets had fewer deaths and lower rates of chronic disease. SO wait, I have always heard we are what we eat but now we are what we tweet?

Study authors say they’re seeing more and more studies looking at health beyond just disease and incorporating indicators of wellbeing. (Time)
