The Yakima City Council will take up the issue of car tab fees at its regular weekly meeting Tuesday night. The council will consider a resolution asking voters to increase the car tabs by $40 a year. Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley says the city needs to come up with a permanent funding source to build and maintain city streets. Cawley says, "The council will determine whether a $20 or $40 increase goes to voters, but voters will have the final say, if they say no, then the issue will be dead." If the council passes the resolution, the car tab increase would be on the ballot next April.
