With such a dry winter many fire experts are predicting a rough wildfire season in Washington State. As a result Yakima County Fire Marshal Jackie Maclean says the Yakima County Commissioners on Tuesday are expected to adopt whats' called the Yakima County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. It helps the county identify the areas that are most at risk for a big fire and creates programs to deal with that risk. "It might be a public outreach awareness or it might be something the residents can do to clear shrubs around their homes. Or it may be provide an opportunity for some grant dollars where we could hire contractors to clean up properties." Mclean says do what you can to protect yourself and your property this spring because the summer may be a big challenge for you and for firefighters.
Following adoption by the board, the plan will be forwarded to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for final approval. The county meets at 10:00 a.m. at Yakima City Hall.
