So what’s an earworm? You may not know it by that name but there’s a pretty good chance you experienced one. An earworm is the name for tune you just can't get out of your head.

The New York Times says the American Psychological Association's Journal Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts released a new study this week called "Dissecting an Earworm: Melodic Features and Song Popularity Predict Involuntary Musical Imagery."

Easy for them to say! To translate, an earworm song is fast and simple, but there are usually some severe octave jumps or bits that are repeated a whole lot in a short period of time and that's what causes these songs to get stuck in your head.

The study has picked nine songs that do the trick, and now just by hearing the titles, you're probably in for an invasion of earworms!  Here’s a tip, Lady Gaga rocks 1/3 of the titles.

  1. "Poker Face" - LADY GAGA
    8. "Alejandro" - LADY GAGA
    7. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - QUEEN
    6. "California Gurls" - KATY PERRY
    5. "Moves Like Jagger" - MAROON
    4. Somebody That I Used To Know" - GOTYE
    3. "Don't Stop Believin'" - JOURNEY
    2. "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" - KYLIE MINOGUE
    1. "Bad Romance" - LADY GAGA
