The Yakima Police Department is partnering with other local police departments to host the 2012 Pacific Northwest Police Detection Dog Association (PNWPDDA) Annual Training and Certification Conference. Over 40 K-9 teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and British Columbia will be participating. Teams will experience both classroom and practical field training designed to hone the skills of drug detecting police dog teams. The event began May 14, and will run through May 18.

The PNWPDDA is a training organization specializing in the training of police narcotic detecting dog teams. The dog teams work within communities assisting in the detection of narcotics, and are trained to find hidden locations that may never be discovered by conventional methods. These highly specialized teams require stringent training and a very high level certification in order to perform these tasks.
