DAVIS HOSTS MIGRANT PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

Davis High School will be hosting a Parent Information Night for migrant students and families on May 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All migrant students and families are encouraged to attend, including migrant students who will be freshmen in the 2012-13 school year.  Presenters and topics will include: College Success Foundation, Dispute Resolution Center, Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health, Graduation Requirements, and many others. Light snacks and child care will be provided.

DISTRICT STAFF IN YVCC PERFORMANCE

Once again, we have some talented Yakima School District staff participating in a Yakima Valley Community College jazz class performance this week. The event will take place at Kendall Hall on May 31 beginning at 7:00 p.m. and will include Lori Strosahl (Garfield), Alan Matson (Robertson), and Nancy Byers (Special Education Services). The performance is free to the public.

DAVIS CHOIR HOLDS FUNDRAISER

The Davis High School choir students will be holding a car wash fundraiser June 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the AutoZone at 1522 South 1st Street.

SUBWAY AND SAFEWAY PRESENT WORKSHOP TO GILBERT STUDENTS

The national Subway office is partnering with the local Safeway folks to present a fitness and nutrition workshop to fourth graders at Gilbert Elementary School on June 7.  The workshop will begin at 9:30 a.m. that day.

WILSON IDOL TALENT SHOW

Celebrating their 10th successful year, the Wilson Middle School Idol Talent Show participants will hold their first evening performance. Treat yourself and your family to an evening of free entertainment June 8. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. in Wilson’s main gym.

BETHEL AME CHURCH HOSTING SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Students preschool through high school age are welcome to attend the Kirkland Academy. This summer school program will be held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Tuesdays through Thursdays, June 19 through July 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

SAFE SITTER CLASSES SPONSORED BY MEMORIAL

Memorial Hospital is sponsoring summer Safe Sitter Classes where boys and girls, ages 11-13, learn safe and nurturing childcare techniques, behavior management skills, and how to handle emergencies when caring for children. Students will learn infant and child CPR and choking child rescue, but will not become CPR certified. The two-day classes are offered June 20 and 21, June 27 and 28, July 25 and 26, August 1 and 2, August 15 and 16. The fee is $60 and includes instruction, manual and completion card. Scholarships are available.

LAST DAY OF CLASSES 

The last day of school for the majority of the Yakima Public Schools will be June 13. The last school day for Adams Elementary will be June 20.
