A West Valley High School senior has been awarded the Congressional Silver Medal, the highest award for youth presented by the United States Congress. 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse awarded the medal Thursday to West Valley High School student Joe Jacob Doria for setting and achieving challenging goals in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.
Newhouse says among his accomplishments doria helped teach environmental education to the Yakima Valley Community, served the homeless under the direction of the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, and dedicated his time to trail work and maintenance every week.

To date, over 7.4 million hours of service have been contributed to communities across the country as a part of the Congressional Award Program.
