It’s a beautiful weekend in Yakima. The sun is shining and the flowers are blooming and everything should be great. But it’s not. We are a little sad around the radio ranch these days since a corporate reorganization cost the employment of our friend and co-worker Brian Teegarden, the heart and soul of KIT for nearly four decades. We understand what happened and why and it wasn’t anything about the quality or quantity of work accomplished by the hardworking Mr. T -- but all those years of fun and camaraderie still make it hard to swallow.

You might know Brian as the man with the soothing, confident voice bringing you good conversation, news, important weather information, and expressing a fiery passion for Northwest sports teams.

We also know Brian as a great husband to Sandy and a very proud papa to his six adopted kids. We know Brian as an interesting guy with an almost total recall-like memory for facts and fun trivia, we know of his love and respect for the history of the city and Yakima Valley, we know his patriotism and love of country.

Brian was the ultimate team player and a problem solver. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease us and be teased back.

This is starting to sound like an obituary and for that I’m sorry. Bee-ry, as I used to call him, is very much alive and well and looking into the next chapter in his life’s story, but we really do miss his reassuring presence here every day. In nearly 40 years of loyalty and dedication to KIT, Brian has seen it all and nothing could ruffle his feathers. Organized, structured and routined -- everything I’m not and everything a successful radio station needs!

Brian will be fine. He’s very smart and has an amazing work ethic. KIT will be fine, too, once we scramble to fill in the giant shoes he leaves behind. All runs come to an end and Brian had a great run.

Our race continues a little lonelier for now, but we’ll do our very best to preserve the Brian Teegarden KIT Tradition of broadcast excellence!
