WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate investigators indicate they've received few answers about the theft of computer equipment, which probably contained millions of names and Social Security numbers, from a federal child support office in Washington state.

A letter obtained by The Associated Press shows Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin asking the Health and Human Services Department if the hard drives were ever recovered and if potential victims were notified about the February thefts.

The burglarized agency oversees child-support programs. One suspect told police he was inside for two hours during the burglary and used a key belonging to a former building employee.

The breach would mark the latest case of personal information swiped from the federal government. The head of the Office of Personnel Management resigned last year after a breach of private data.
