Washington State Patrol trooper Nate Dawson has been identified as the trooper involved in a shooting near Grandview Monday in which two suspects fired on Dawson after he stopped them for speeding. Trooper Chris Thorson, a patrol spokesman, says trooper Dawson pursued the vehicle for a short time before it stopped near a home on Forsell Road. He says that's when the two men opened  fire on the trooper striking the patrol car. The men then ran into a vinyard and disappeared into the darkness. But Thorsen says the men left the vehicle and detectives are hoping to gain information from the car that will lead them to the two suspects.

The trooper remains on paid administrative leave. He was not injured.
