It's May and temperatures are already in the upper 80's. That has fire officials around the state very concerned about what could be another rough fire season. 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse says he's working with forest managers and firefighters to create better coordination of fire resources this fire season. Last year the State of Washington experienced the worst wildfire season ever and Newhouse tells KIT News. "With all these rough fire years we've had we've been getting better able to anticipate the kinds of problems we'll see so I'm hoping this year will be better in a lot of different ways." Hundreds of homes were destroyed and thousands of acres burned last year. Newhouse says this year the forest service has a larger budget and more firefighting resources to attack the flames. Despite the hot dry weather this early in the year Newhouse is hoping we can avoid a fire year like 2015.
