When you live in Yakima and you see an article about apples, well you have to take a look.  I’m really glad I did.

Apples are the gold standard of our economy but that gold turns to brown shortly after being exposed to air.  If only there was a way to stop that….yup.

Consumers will soon be able to buy apples that won't brown when they're skinned. The new genetically modified (GM) fruit –years in development - ships from orchards in Washington state, and is commonly referred to as the "Arctic apple" but that’s not the type of apple.

It'll be sold as a sliced apple product made up of at least three varieties of apples, including Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Fuji and sold in 10-ounce bags, available at 400 Midwest grocery stores this month.

It will be interesting to see if consumers bypass the crunch of a whole apple for the convenience of a pre-cut non-browning snack.  (Quartz)
