WAR IS HELL, but if you survive, transitioning back to civilian life isn’t always easy either. But there is help.

The Warrior Freedom project holds a fundraiser this Saturday (Sept. 23) at the Running Springs Ranch near Naches to raise money to help America’s soldiers transition to normal life back home.

Highlights of the day that begins around 2 p.m. includes motivation and music.

Singer/songwriter Gary Morris of Nashville will entertain, along with the Rumor band and the motivation will be provided by the author of the book, “Steel Will,” Staff Sgt. Shiloh Harris.

If that name sounds familiar you may have seen him on ABC-TV as the recipient of a house on the “Extreme Makeover” show.

In his book Harris recounts his journey “through hell to become the man he believes he was meant to be.”

In 2007 Harris was part of an armored vehicle crew that was blown up by an IED.  Three fellow soldiers were killed and Harris was crushed and severely burned.

The road to recovery include 48 days in an induced coma, three years in therapy and 75 surgeries.

From a devastated casualty of war, Harris has worked to become a motivational speaker and living inspiration on how to overcome adversity.  His world wide message raises awareness of the physical, emotional and mental scars of war and how to reclaim peace and quality of life.

The event is for ages 21 and older, parking is available at the Wagners Featherland Ranch. Tickets are $100 and there will be a catered meal with both a live and silent auctions. Autographed copies of Harris’ book, “Steel Will,” are also on sale.
