Yakima voters are being asked to make a major investment in city parks through Proposition 1 on the November ballot. City Manager Tony O'Rourke says the idea is to create a dedicated public parks and recreation fund to make major upgrades to city parks. The proposition would devote $750,000 a year from general fund money that O'Rourke says would go to major capital improvements.

"Things like the current pools, a new pool, soccer or park facilities. It's designed to create capital investments in our park facilities," he explains.

O'Rourke says he believes the proposition will pass since many Yakima residents have asked for improvements to parks and recreation facilities for years. Proposition 1 appears on the Nov. 4 General Election ballot.
