About 40 people gathered Wednesday evening near a home where a 10-year-old boy was fatally injured by a gunshot wound early Sunday morning.

Friends and relatives of Nathaniel Reedy-McCoy remembered the boy at the home in the 1800 block of West Ahtanum Road where he died in the early morning hours of March 8. A makeshift memorial of a wooden cross and some of the child's toys marked the spot where he fell.

Nathaniel and his grandfather, Steve Reedy, went outside of their trailer to check why their generator went off.

That's when the 10-year-old was struck by a bullet. He later died at a Yakima hospital.

Union Gap police are following a tip that two large vehicles were seen in the vicinity shortly before the shooting, but still say they do not believe it was gang related.

*Friends of Nathaniel Reedy-McCoy's family will hold a car wash on Saturday, March 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at the AM/PM at 40th and Fruitvale. Funds raised will go to covering the boy's funeral expenses.
