SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington is considering hosting a homeless camp on campus, following the experience of two other Seattle universities. University officials say they were inspired to consider the idea after a recent homeless count found more people are without a home in King County.

UW officials are considering a possible tent city encampment during winter quarter 2017.

A committee is studying the feasibility and seeking feedback on the next steps.

The decision on whether to host and encampment and where will be made after gathering community feedback.

No tuition or state taxpayer funds would be used to host the encampment - only privately raised funds.
