The Yakima City Council on Tuesday unanimously denied an appeal of a group of business owners on North First Street who were opposed to a proposed expansion of the Yakima Union Gospel Mission. The Yakima City Council on Tuesday upheld a decision by the hearing examiner saying the planning department met all requirements before it gave the go ahead to the expansion application. Now the business owners who are part of the Gateway Organization must decide whether to challenge the decision in Yakima County Superior Court.
The expansion includes a 13,000-square-foot parking lot, construction of a 3,500-square-foot health clinic and a 5,600-square-foot residential area for the mission’s recovery program.
