Two Sunnyside Police officers were injured while trying to break up a large fight at the Form Dance Hall in Sunnyside.  Officers got the call just before 1:00 Sunday morning.  At least 20 people were involved in the fight when officers arrived.  Sunnyside Police called for assistance from Yakima Sheriff's office deputies, Washington State Patrol troopers, and officers from Granger, Mabton and Grandview police departments.

Upon the officer’s arrival, 20-year-old Yessenia Verduzco and 41-year-old Margarita Alvarez were taken into custody for the original fight.  According to the security officers, multiple fights started as a result of this original fight.  While the officers were there clearing the dance hall, another fight broke out.  An officer attempted to take 30-year-old Leonel Ramos into custody.  Ramos actively resisted and assaulted an officer.  As a result, the officer sustained a minor cut to the forehead and a broken finger on the officer’s left hand.  Verduzco and Alvarez will be charged with disorderly conduct.  Ramos will be charged with two counts of assault in the fourth degree and resisting arrest.  Verduzco was cited and released. Alvarez and Ramos were booked and held for court or bail.
