While no major race problems exist in yakima many other parts of the country deal with race problems on a daily basis. Steve Mitchell credits local officials and police agencies for being leaders in the community and keeping the lines of communication open. Mitchell, the CEO of Yakima's OIC along with hundreds of others will march on Monday in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Walk. "I know that if we ever we have issues in this community we can sit down and work through those issues. We seem to be lacking leadership when it comes to common sense issues." The annual peace walk on Monday  will start at 11:00 a.m. at 5th Avenue and MLK Blvd. It will end at the Yakima Convention Center where a special program is planned for Noon.
In Toppenish the annual peace march starts at 10:00 a.m.  Monday at the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot in downtown Toppenish. Check out an interview from The Morning News today. http://youtu.be/5Jgcl2G_3hw
