14th District State Rep. Gina McCabe plans to introduce legislation in 2016 that will create a system to help first responders identify people with disabilities. McCabe says it's called the Travis Alert Act, named after a 10-year-old child from Yakima who has Autism. McCabe says she started working on the act after talking with his mother. "She's hoping that the first responders are able to know how to respond in an event of an emergency with him." Currently there's no state system that would alert the first responders in the case of an emergency that they're dealing with someone with a disability. But the Travis Cct will change that. It would create a system in which parents or guardians would place an orange colored puzzle piece decal on a vehicle or a home to alert first responders. A special meeting to talk about the act is set for next Tuesday at the Entrust Community Services Building at 1501 South 36th Avenue. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
