The Cascade mountain range isn’t the only place in the country that’s affected this year by minimal snow pack.  Farther north and to the west the famous Alaskan Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race gets underway on Saturday but this year's dry conditions have forced organizers to head north to a place where there's enough snow. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race starts with a ceremonial run through Anchorage, but the official start of the race two days later has been moved 225 miles north to Fairbanks.

Your TV Weatherman will tell you that the same jet stream pattern that's been burying the northeastern U.S. in snow and cold temperatures has been causing warmer air than usual and less snow in Alaska.  The weather for Saturday in Fairbanks is 28 degrees…and snow.  MUSH!
