The French say fromage, the Spanish say queso and you probably say cheese but some scientists are saying  “to longer life”!

A new study finds that eating certain types of cheeses can help you live longer. Published in the journal Nature Medicine, scientists found that consuming the compound spermidine lengthened the lives of rats and mice.

Wikipedia says “Polyamines, such as spermidine, are polycationic aliphatic amines and are multifunctional. They serve vital roles in cell survival.”  To which we say “Huh?”  EXCEPT for the part about serving a vital role in cell survival.

Spermidine is found in certain aged cheeses so scientists next surveyed 800 Italians, and found that those who reported an increased intake of spermidine had lower blood pressure, a 40 percent lower chance of heart failure, and a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Too good to be true? Probably because  the protective effects of spermidine could be offset by the amount of fat found in cheese, so researchers warn you should still consume cheese in moderation.  (Elite Daily)
