The city of Yakima has formed a pool committee to explore the possibility of creating an aquatics center somewhere in the city. Bob Romero is the Executive Director of the Yakima YMCA who's also part of the new committee says he wants the city to have more than just a pool. He'd like to see a center that features "a lazy river and zero depth pools and warm water therapy pools. There's really a lot of things as a community that we don't have so I think it's a matter of looking at those options and issues and looking at what makes sense." He says the committee will come up with a number of options and a list of locations including Chesterly Park. City officials say they're looking for property to create a large soccer complex to replace fields at Chesterly Park even if the committee decides to place an aquatic center in another area. The committees first meeting is set for September 24 at the Harmon Center in Yakima.
