Time to get out that bike and ride the Yakima River Canyon. For the past 13 Years "Your Canyon for a Day"  bike tour has continually grown. Sunday's event brings thousands of visitors to the Yakima Valley to enjoy hotels, restaurants, retail and the wine industry.

And this year, 1,000 to 1,200 riders from the our four-state area are expected to show up.  Registrations are from as far away as California and Colorado, with the majority coming from Oregon and Washington. The bike ride is referred to by the Cascade Bike Club ( the largest bike club in the U.S.) as one of the safest and enjoyable spring rides for the whole family.  Many of the riders and families have been doing the ride for more than a decade.

Riders start from either the Roza Recreational Area or from Thrall Road on the Ellensburg end. The Yakima River Canyon is closed to through motor vehicle traffic and thus a great family event. The total distance is 17.5 miles one way, so you can go 5 or 35 miles along the river road. Riders that did not pre-register can register Sunday at either end of the canyon. Price is $50 per person or $85 for the whole family.

All the proceeds go to support Yakima County Crime Stoppers. The funds go directly to pay rewards and basic operational expenses. Of course, Crime Stoppers Yakima County have no paid employees and all fund raising goes to support our communities and high school programs.
