The Yakima Valley offers four seasons, fresh air, year round sunshine and acres and acres of hiking, climbing, biking running, golfing, fishing, hunting, AAU sports and more.  With all that recreational opportunity there should be no reason Yakima area kids don’t exceed the national averages for being healthy and in shape.

A new study from Colorado State University found more than 90 percent of U.S. high school students don't get enough exercise and the pattern persists after they graduate.

CBS news reports the study tracked students at 44 different high schools for four years. They found that only nine percent met current exercise recommendations throughout that time. For the most part, those habits held steady after high school --though college students were more active than non-students-- and the ones who lived on campus exercised more than those who lived at home.
