As of this morning Yakima is in first place for the Community Engagement Award. Its a national contest sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or ASPCA. A 25 thousand dollar award is at stake and people all over the country are voting. Alan Landvoy with the Central Washington Human Society says during the challenge they've also stepped up efforts to adopt out animals. As of this morning 1252 dogs and cats have been adopted out, thats about 400 more than at the same time last year. The voting for the Community Engagement Challenge ends tomorrow night at 9 pm pacific time.  You can vote 1 time each day, just go to www.votetosavelives.org to cast your ballot and hopefully help the Central Washington Humane Society to win 25 thousand dollars. The money would be used for local spay and neuter programs.
