With the recent run of record hot temperatures, the Yakima Union Gospel Mission is putting out the air conditioned welcome mat.

The mission provides  an air-conditioned day room, with televisions and laundry, meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), air conditioned bedrooms, showers, and free medical care.  In a news release Stephanie Carlson, Dir. of Communication & Marketing for the mission says being homeless is not a prerequisite for care as they tend to the needs for many people with homes and jobs, noting that heatstroke is just as serious as hypothermia, but it's signs are not as obvious.

Carlson adds that this is a great time for people to consider throwing an extra water and sun block in their car for someone in need.
