The number of unmarried couples with children has jumped twelve fold since 1970 and children are far more likely to live with unmarried parents than divorced ones.

The National Marriage Project report by the University of Virginia and the pro-marriage Institute for American Values show 42 percent of kids have lived with an unwed mom and dad by age 12, far more than the 24 percent whose folks have divorced. Researchers also discovered that people with only a high school diploma were much more likely to shack up than those who graduated from college.

The study also revealed the educated and affluent enjoy relatively strong, stable families. Everyone else is more likely to have a family that is unstable and unworkable which leads to a “two family model” emerging in American life.
