Labor Day Weekend 2014 is special --and not in a good way because the world of work, is for many, not in a good way.  In its intent the holiday is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The reality of the workplace today is another story. According to a poll by the Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers, college will continue to be unaffordable, people won't be able to retire as expected and jobs will continue to be insecure.

The report on attitudes and conditions at work Titled "Unhappy, Worried and Pessimistic: Americans in the Aftermath of the Great Recession indicates only 16 percent of those surveyed thought employment and opportunities will be better for the next generation compared with 56 percent who thought so in a July 1999 survey.

The work place is no place of solace with 70 percent of the "typical American worker," indicating they were insecure in their jobs," and 68 percent felt highly stressed.

numbers ; just 14% reported being “happy at work" and only 18 percent felt they were "well paid" for the work they do. (Kansas City Star)

So enjoy Labor Day because it seems more and more of us aren’t enjoying our labor.
