You’ve heard me rant on this before but it deserves a push back every time it raises its stupid head.  Political correctness is out of control.  This time its pointed at little kids who are fans of Halloween and Disney movies.  Disney is facing some backlash over a Halloween costume it's selling that is inspired by the upcoming feature, Moana.  Keep in mind this is a movie from the folks who brought us Frozen, Zootopia and Big Hero Six.  These are all excellent films and the people who made them are certainly sensitive to their subject matter but apparently that’s forgotten by some when these cartoon creatures hop off the screen and into the Halloween dreams of children

The children's costume in question is inspired by the character Maui, a Polynesian god voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the film. The costume includes an "island-style skirt" made of fabric leaves, a rope necklace, and a brown body suit covered with tattoos. The arms and legs also come padded to simulate Maui's muscle-bound physique.

So what’s the problem? There are some folks online who have raised concerns that the costume caricatures Polynesian culture, particularly by turning Maui's brown skin into a costume piece. The costume is a caricature but not the on screen character?  How does that happen?

Many of the critiques echo the same sentiment of the 'We Are A Culture, Not A Costume' poster campaign that has circulated around Halloween over the last few years. (Elite Daily)
