Murder Rates in Yakima Dropping

kimatv.com

The murder rate in Yakima is dropping. In 2010, there were 14 murders in the city. That number dropped to six in 2011, and so far this year Yakima Police have only handled two murder cases.

There has also been a drop in the number of murders throughout Yakima County. In 2010 there were 26, last year there were 22 and this year so far, there have been nine.

While the murder rate has dropped, there have been a high number of gun incidents – 15 in just the last two weeks. Yakima Police Captain Rod Light says the fact that more of these weren’t murders could be a matter of luck.
