Do your weekend plans include a stop for a latte?  Look, if you’re gonna go latte you might as well go with the latest. Tell your barista to tune up a turmeric!

Turmeric is the yellow Indian spice usually found in curries and believed to have health benefits, but now the drink "haldi doodh" as it's known in India, or "turmeric lattes", are all the rage all over the world.

So far am trying hard to resist writing “singing haldi haldi dooh-del all the day” but I can’t.  Sorry.

Newser reports that cafes from San Francisco to Sydney, Australia are selling their own version of the traditional drink, which is typically made in the West with juiced turmeric root, almond, cashew or soy milk, and is often called "golden milk."

Google it and you won’t be alone, searches for turmeric jumped 56 percent from November to January, and up 300% since 2011, a sure sign of the drink's popularity.

Not unlike “snake oil” in the 1800’s, there are all kinds of claims associated turmeric can including the ability to help cure depression, whiten teeth, fight acne, and more.
