About now all the magazine covers are proclaiming the latest fastest ways for you to “get in shape for summer”.  They show you all the skinny happy fashion people and hope you’ll be interested enough in being one of them that you’ll buy the magazine to figure out how to do it.  BUT… If you really want to be in shape and be the master of your exercise program, experts say one of the best ways to do it is to tie your exercise to a higher level life goal than a magazine fashion layout.

Researchers at the University of Colorado Denver asked more than a hundred people about their health and levels of optimism and purpose. After monitoring the physical activity of these participants  the conclusion reached was that a person’s “strong sense of purpose in life” gave them the motivation for engaging in healthy behaviors or in other words “connecting physical activity to one's innermost values and goals may increase the likelihood that people engage in these behaviors on a regular basis."   So there you go.  You don’t sweat to be one of the cool kids, you sweat in pursuit of being healthy and available for a higher calling.
