Halloween and Election Day are gone. It's time to welcome the holidays starting on Nov. 11.

I personally don't look at Halloween as the official start of the year end holiday season as many people do. I realize that it's a huge family (and commercial) holiday that has ancient roots, but I don't start getting into any kind of spirit until after Election Day.

With the passing of the election, I feel that I can now take a breather and start to enjoy the holiday season. I count Veteran's Day as the beginning of that season because I have so many vets in my family, and the weather really starts to turn cold in anticipation of winter.

Next up is Thanksgiving. I love to plan family dinners and prepare them. I love the time off from work that I get to spend with my family. The smells of pumpkin and spices in the kitchen. I love the fact that the Seahawks will be kicking San Francisco's bahooky royally on Thanksgiving evening this year, too.

And of course after that, it's on to Christmas. This has to be my absolute favorite holiday.  Decorating the house inside and out. The shopping and the fellowship of seeing friends you may run into. The Christmas lighted parades. Going to a Christmas movie with the family. Attending church on Christmas Eve and having an informal family portrait in front of our church's altar after the service, and the free for all that happens at home on Christmas Morning.

How do you feel about the upcoming holidays? Are you looking forward to them, or are they something that you'd rather skip?

As for me, I'm glad they're here.
