Last night my wife and her mom (Special K) teamed up to help work on Kate’s Halloween costume.  This year she’s nearly six and her choice is a “special” kind of ghost outfit -with grandma’s loving touch- so it will no doubt scare up a bunch of treats!  Speaking of scare, the money we spend on the scaring up a little spooky fun is frightening. In case you hadn’t noticed, Halloween is like EVERYWHERE, and it’s big business with total spending expected to reach $7.4 billion this year.

In the spirit of the spookiest time of the year, the finance social network WalletHub crunched the numbers in 15 key metrics, ranging from crime rates to the number of candy stores per capita to find the best and worst cities to celebrate Halloween.

Yakima wasn’t rated but Seattle came in 45 and Portland was 47th to represent the Pacific NW in the middle of the pack. Interestingly enough, you only have to cross a river to go from number one to number two...bring an extra candy bag!
