It’s a jungle out there and if a guy wants to have a chance he’s gonna need a stash of cash, right?  Right enough that scientists say we are willing to take bigger risks to get it.

New data shows that heterosexual men take greater risks with money after being shown photos of male models.  What?

Hold on Sparky, just what are you driving at?  Are you saying guys are motivated by guys to take risks to get ahead of those same guys?

Exactly.

In a recent study a group of men and women were shown photos of male Abercrombie models, female Victoria's Secret models, or photos of normal people. All participants were given the choices to take $100, or opt for a bet that would give them a 10 percent chance of winning a $1,000 prize. So in this corner it’s “sure thing” and in that corner it’s “take a risk”.

The men who were shown photos of the male Abercrombie models showed a higher likelihood of taking the risky option compared to men who saw the other photos.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, but researchers say it indicates men want to appear more desirable to women, and having more money is one way to do so.

Taking financial risk is a quick way to get more money, even if it might not be a sure thing.

Interestingly, none of the participants who were shown the photos of the female models showed the same behavior. (Newser)
