Teens Who Fatally Beat WWII Vet Have Trial Date

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A trial date of Jan. 12 has been set in the case of a World War II veteran who was beaten to death by two teen-agers during a robbery in Spokane.

88-year-old Delbert "Shorty" Belton was beaten to death last year.

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Annette Plese set the trial date during a court hearing on Wednesday.

Court documents contend teen-agers Kenan Adams-Kinard and Demetrius Glenn punched and beat Belton to death during a robbery in a case that outraged the Spokane community.

Each of the defendants is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. They could face life in prison if convicted.
