Teen Who Beat WWII Vet Sentenced

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A 17-year-old Spokane boy who admitted he beat a World War II veteran to death during a robbery has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Kenan Adams-Kinard pleaded guilty last month and faced a standard sentence to 20 to 27 years in prison. He was sentenced on Thursday in Spokane County Superior Court.

The Spokesman-Review reported he faced a murder charge in the August 2013 attack on Delbert Belton. The 88-year-old known as "Shorty" survived the battle of Okinawa but was killed outside a bar by two youths who then stole his wallet.

The second teen accused in the attack, Demetrius Glenn, still faces murder charges in the attack.

Belton returned to Spokane after World War II and spent decades working at Kaiser Aluminum before retiring.
