A familiar idiom is “the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree,” which basically means it isn’t a surprise when kids turn out like their parents.Parents who love and nurture their kids usually produce loving and nurturing children. But can you overdo it?

A new study found that parents who "overvalue" their children, believing they're better than other kids and deserve special treatment, can turn their offspring into narcissists who believe they're superior to others.

We’ve all seen these kids and parents in action and it isn’t pretty. That’s one of the reasons why we are intrigued when an uber-rich parent like Bill Gates says he isn’t leaving all of his money to the kids and that they need to learn to earn and fend for themselves.

The study out of Ohio State University

found that loving your child is healthy and good, but thinking your child is better than other children can lead to narcissism, and there is nothing healthy about that.

Maybe a discussion about sparing the rod and spoiling the child is in order next time?
