Watch what you put in the container because you can't place garbage, plastic bags, food scraps, animal waste, ashes and sod, building materials, and tree trunks or large branches in the container. The items are not acceptable by the Yakima County landfill as yard waste. They are considered contaminants.

The city refuse department won't be working on Thanksgiving but garbage pick-up service will resume Friday. If your garbage day is Thursday it will instead be collected Friday, November 29. Garbage pick-up scheduled for Friday will be collected on Saturday, November 30th.

The city of Yakima Refuse Division is trying to maintain its regular schedules, but acknowledges garbage collection could be suspended if a street is considered unsafe due to snow or icy conditions.
