Tacoma School Superintendent Wins National Award

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Tacoma school Superintendent Carla Santorno has won a national woman in school leadership award. She was honored last week at a conference in Arizona.

The award from the American Association of School Administrators recognizes Santorno for building community connections to ensure student success.

Bill Keim of the Washington Association of School Administrators says the Tacoma efforts to connect schools and students with resources in the community should be copied by other school districts.

Those partnerships with local colleges and universities have benefited both the school district and the students studying to be teachers at those colleges.

Santorno received a $1,000 check along with the award.
