It took 11 innings, but the Walla Walla Sweets snapped the Yakima Valley Pippins winning streak at six Monday night with a 5-3 win at Yakima County Stadium.

The loss dropped the Pippins to 15-9 overall, and 12-7 in West Coast League play, still atop the East Division.

The Sweets finally broke through on a two-run double from Andrew Mendenhall against reliever Nick Kern in the top of the 11th to give the Sweets a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish.

The loss ended the Pippins’ six-game winning streak, while snapping a five-game losing streak for Walla Walla. The two teams go at it again tonight at 7:05, with Brandon Williams on the hill for the Pippins, opposite Walla Walla’s Cody Carroll.
