Things are back to normal in Zillah today after the Zillah Police Department received report of a suspicious package on the steps of the Zillah post office on Thursday.

The area was cordoned off, evacuated, and the appropriate agencies contacted. With assistance from Zillah Public Works and Zillah Fire Department, a perimeter was established.

The Yakima Firing Center's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and Federal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) were notified and responded.

Bomb technicians were able to use a robotic detection device to determine the contents of the package. The contents of the package were x-rayed and the package opened to ensure that it was safe.

he package did not contain any explosive devices or hazardous materials.
The incident will be investigated jointly by the Zillah Police Department, ATF and the U.S. Postal Service Investigation Division.
