Suspicious Package Exploded by Police

KNDO

Yakima Police implore the public to back away and call them immediately if they find a suspicious device.

Capt. Rod Light says people did just that when they saw a package that looked suspicious on 7th street in Yakima on Wednesday. It turned out to be a tube of fireworks.

Light says never kick, move or pick up the device. And he says never take a device to the Yakima Police Department.

“I remember a time when someone brought in a hand grenade he’d found you don’t want to do that.”

Light says stay clear of the device or bag or any other suspicious package and keep others away as well. When police arrive they’ll know exactly what to do. He warns to not let curiosity kill you.

The device found Wednesday was blown up by the training center bomb squad and turned out to be fireworks in a tube.
