First we were informed that Yakima is one of the top 25 cities in the country to raise kids...

http://newstalkkit.com/yakima-declared-one-of-the-worst-cities-in-america-to-raise-kids/

and now we are proclaimed to be the worst city in Washington!

Man, I bet the Visitor and Convention Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce love to hear  that!

So who came up with this and how did they do it?

"To determine America’s worst cities to live in each state, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed data on the largest U.S. cities. Based on a range of variables, including crime rates, employment growth, access to restaurants and attractions, educational attainment, and housing affordability"

24/7 Wall Street says "greater economic challenges than much of the rest of the state....typical Yakima household earns only $44,050 a year, roughly $20,000 less than the median household income statewide....  22% of Yakima residents live below the poverty line, the largest share of any city in the state"

Yakima's violent crime rate was also factored in.

On paper the numbers may tell one story but walking down the streets in Tacoma, some parts of Spokane and Seattle tell another.

Yakima is an All-American City for its willingness to face our challenges and work together for solutions.  Solutions like - just where should we put this survey.
