Sunnyside Police Department officials say they think someone intentionally killed the department's police K-9 but not with malice. The city's first police dog was found dead Saturday afternoon. The 7 year old German Shepard escaped from his kennel last Friday afternoon, he was later found dead in a vineyard near Granger. Veterinarians from Washington State University determined Helios had been shot through the chest. Sunnyside Police Chief Al Escalera. "There was intent but was it malicious. Did the person intentionally shoot a police K-9 dog and that's what we're saying we don't believe happaned." They said many farmers have run into an issue with stray dogs attacking their livestock or even their workers, the reason farmers are allowed to shoot and kill if they feel they're in danger.
Police are still investigating how he escaped and who shot him however they say no criminal charges will be filed.
