Sunnyside will celebrate the life of its hometown astronaut Bonnie Dunbar today when a bronze statue is installed at the entrance to Central Park in downtown Sunnyside at South 5th Street and Franklin Avenue. Dunbar is a native of Sunnyside and the foundation for the community of Sunnyside wants to honor her with the statue. It depicts Dunbar as a little girl and as an astronaut holding her helmet.

Dunbar flew five missions during her career as a NASA astronaut. She now owns a consulting company after her job of president and CEO of the Seattle museum of flight. She's expected to attend the installation of the statue at 10 a.m. today.
