Immigration reform proposed by the so-called "Gang of Eight" in the United States Senate would add trillions to the national debt.

The study by the Heritage Foundation found that over a lifetime, the former unlawful immigrants would recieve $9.4 trillion in government benefits and services and pay $3.1 trillion in taxes. That would generate a lifetime deficit  (total benefits minus total taxes) of $6.3 trillion. "Unlawful immigration and amnesty for current unlawful immigrants can pose large fiscal cost for U.S. taxpayers." states the report by Robert Rector and Jason Richwine, Ph.D.  Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint says "the study presents a staggering cost of another amnesty in our country, there is no reason we can't begin to fix our immigration system so that we won't make this problem worse."

"But the bill that's being presented is unfair to those who came here legally. It will cost Americans trillions of dollars.

It'll make our unlawful immigration system worse." DeMints comments came on ABC's 'This Week'.
